Changing times, Changed lifestyles -- Nostalgic Feeling....

I was watching the yesteryear's cultural TV show called "Surabhi" on DD Retro channel recently. Those of us born in 70s/80s, might have seen this very good informative TV show, which used to air on DD1(Doordarshan) channel. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surabhi_(TV_series))

As a child in those days, I used to eagerly wait for this program, partly because it was all about improving your GK(general knowledge) level !!! In those days, I used to participate in lots of quizzes and this program was treasure trove of knowledge to say the least :-) It used to be a weekly show and hence I used to make sure, that I do not miss any episodes of this wonderful program/show. 

At the end of the program, they used to ask a question and the winner used to get 2 days holiday package in any of the ITDC hotels across India !!! { Mind you, that was too much to ask for in those days :-) }. People across India, used to send in thousands of answers to these weekly questions. And how was the answer sent? By means of Postcard !!! Those were the days, when Mobile or Internet was very rare. Also, they used to give one week for the answers(postcards) to reach the Cinema Vision India's(producer of the show) Mumbai office. The draw of lots to choose the winner was really tough task with so many thousands postcards received( some times 50000+ postcards were received). They used to stack up the cards in rows and rows and some little kid used to pick one card among those, to choose the winner. Really lucky guy to have been picked from those mounds of postcards !. 

 Can you imagine such a thing happening nowadays? In today's reality shows the voting happens either through internet or mobile. And in couple of shows, there have been live voting happening during the show. These were all unheard of and impossible to imagine during those days. We as kids, never thought that we will witness such an ocean of change happening within our lifetimes !!! 

So much has changed in past 10 - 20 - 30 years. Things which we hadn't imagined have taken over our lives and we are constantly changing with times. 
As the saying goes, "The Only Thing That Is Constant Is Change" ! 

Also, with changing times, our lifestyle has changed so much that we, no longer are living the life we should. We are constantly, seeking some unknown and running behind it. We are constantly on the run. Living life on simpler terms like, "appreciating the things you have, enjoying little moments of life, spending quality time with your near and dear ones, loving someone without any expectations, helping people without any strings attached to it etc.", is missing from our life. Materialism has penetrated so much in our life, that we've forgotten the basic human qualities of love, harmony, compassion, brotherhood, contentment, faith/trust etc. We have lost of our ability to think independently and are shaping our opinion based on the trash, fed to us by the media(be it television, internet etc.). 

Is there any end to it at all? Only time will tell. Lets hope the sanity restores in humankind and world would become a beautiful place to live again. Until such time, "Ye Jeevan hai, is Jeevan ka yahee hai, yahee hai, yahee hai rang roop.... thode gham hai, thodee khushiyaan... yahee hai, yahee hai yahee hai chaanv dhoop"

The other day, I stumbled upon an Instagram reel that transported me back to the late 90s. It was a clip from 'Movers and Shakers', the late-night talk show hosted by Shekhar Suman that aired on Sony TV between 1997 and 2001. The Equalizer Called Time...

In the 2025 TV series 'Paradise' (Season 2, Episode 3), there’s a conversation between Dr. Louge and Samantha Redmond aka. Sinatra, the tech billionaire, about the imminent apocalypse on earth, that feels less like fiction and more like prophecy. What we see is, what we think we see...

   In the Season 2,Episode 1 of the TV series, 'The Brokenwood Mysteries'(2014), Detective Inspector Mike Shepard (the main character) asks Jared Morehu (Shepherd's Māori neighbour) , " I mean to ask, what does Quantum Physics have to do with gardening? ".  Jared: " Well everything.... Quantum Physics is the theory that logically leads to the conclusion that everything is inter-related and that, what we see with our eyes is only a shallow outer form of a much deeper reality ".  Mike: " What we see is ...".  Jared: " What we see is, what we think we see.
