Anwar

When I first heard the song "Maula mere, maula mere..."(watch it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHZuyI29gyw) on Radio, I was bowled over by the song. Then, when I saw the visuals of the song "Javeda Zindagi..."(watch it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R1vsrGrRgs) i was just spellbound !!! What a lovely song it was... The use of Krishna and Meera symbolically in the song just stole my heart... :-) Since that day I badly wanted to see the movie... Oh, by the way I am talking about "Anwar" by Manish Jha... I saw the movie yesterday and it is really a well made movie showcasing the current state of affairs in India in a lovely manner. If "Gulaal" is the angrier interpretation of current state of affairs in India, "Anwar" is the softer and typical bollywood style(holding love at the center-stage of the movie) interpretation of state of affairs in India. I would recommend these 2 movies to be some kind of cult movies, which should be...

India and Democracy

India being the biggest democracy in the world has made a laughing stock of itself, by all the wrong things happening in India in the name of Democracy. Democracy was supposed to end the misery of the populace of nation and take the country to heights of progress. But in case of India, at least I feel we haven't achieved that objective of prospering the country/populace :-( The 15 th Lok Sabha elections are crucial to India, what with all the bad things happening all over the world, like resurgence of global terrorism, worst economic recession of our times, global climate change etc. In this time of great test, we needed leaders of the calibre of Obama, to lead India out of this mess. Alas, India lacks such leadership and god knows when we will have such great leaders leading us. Even though India has produced high calibre leaders in the corporate world, we lack the same standard of leadership when it comes to Governance. If we look at the past couple of governments ruli...

What Life Asks of Us

What Life Asks of Us [Source: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/27/opinion/27brooks.html ] By DAVID BROOKS Published: January 26, 2009 A few years ago, a faculty committee at Harvard produced a report on the purpose of education. "The aim of a liberal education" the report declared, "is to unsettle presumptions, to defamiliarize the familiar, to reveal what is going on beneath and behind appearances, to disorient young people and to help them to find ways to reorient themselves." The report implied an entire way of living. Individuals should learn to think for themselves. They should be skeptical of pre-existing arrangements. They should break free from the way they were raised, examine life from the outside and discover their own values. This approach is deeply consistent with the individualism of modern culture, with its emphasis on personal inquiry, personal self-discovery and personal happiness. But there is another, older way of living, and it was discussed in a...

A wonderful Message by George Carlin

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.   We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've ...

The year gone by...

2008 will be remembered as the worst year in our living history because of so many reasons: 1) The collapse of financial giants like Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers(remember that Lehman Brothers was the most respected financial conglomerate and most of IIM students' dream company) etc. All this caused by the infamous subprime crisis in US 2) The year when countries world over went bankrupt just like the financial behemoths in US did 3) The year when wolrd saw massive layoffs all over world. From US to China to India to any other country you've heard of... 4) The year when Inflation rose to dizzy heights in India and for that matter all over the world 5) The year when terrorists struck at will on India day after day(remember the Bangalore and Ahmedabad blasts on consecutive days), month after month and the Indian government was busy making strategies to stick to the power(caused by infamous withdrawl of support by CPI/CPM), when it would have been making strategies to ta...
