Helping Others....

Yesterday while coming in the bus, I witnessed an act of selfless help, which made me write blog after a gap of an year :-)

This is what happened, I was in the bus, en-route to my office yesterday. I was reading some important document. I had missed bringing a pen with me. So I had no way of marking my notes in the doc, in the absence of a pen. Since, I had couple of notes on the doc contents, I had to note down them, before I forgot. Hence, hesitantly, I turned to person sitting next to me and asked him if he has a pen. The person said, "No". I think, I would have expressed my helplessness at not finding a pen :-). The person whom I asked for pen, asked, "do you need the pen now itself?". I said, "yes". Then he went to his friend who was sitting down the aisle(in the volvo buses of BMTC, we have upper and lower aisles!!!) and got the pen from him and gave it to me. I used the pen after-wards and noted down my notes.

This incident, reminded me of our philosophy of helping others out of our(Indian) way and without any motives :-). The person, who went out of his way to help, might have just said, he doesn't have the pen and kept quiet. Nothing would have happened. But he did go out of his way and helped me, who was in need help at that point in time...
There was no material motive behind helping me in such way, since, I and that person, have never met each other and may never meet again in future!!! But he just went ahead and helped me. That's what counted in the end. That small act of helping a needy person, irrespective of the nature of the need... In today's world, where people are becoming more and more selfish, such noble creed of people remind us of the great culture, we Indians had developed since ages. Alas that we are forgetting the good human qualities, in today's mad rat race to get to the top of the pyramid :-(

May such people flourish more and may good human qualities re-surge in the days to come, making the world a better place to live :-)
