Anwar
When I first heard the song "Maula mere, maula mere..."(watch it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHZuyI29gyw) on Radio, I was bowled over by the song. Then, when I saw the visuals of the song "Javeda Zindagi..."(watch it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R1vsrGrRgs) i was just spellbound !!! What a lovely song it was... The use of Krishna and Meera symbolically in the song just stole my heart... :-) Since that day I badly wanted to see the movie... Oh, by the way I am talking about "Anwar" by Manish Jha... I saw the movie yesterday and it is really a well made movie showcasing the current state of affairs in India in a lovely manner. If "Gulaal" is the angrier interpretation of current state of affairs in India, "Anwar" is the softer and typical bollywood style(holding love at the center-stage of the movie) interpretation of state of affairs in India.
I would recommend these 2 movies to be some kind of cult movies, which should be watched by all for the sheer force, with which they drive home different kinds of messages.
Now coming back to Anwar, it is about the tale of an innocent young man, who gets killed in the name of religion. While telling this tale, the director Manish Jha, skillfully introduces us to the current state of affairs in Indian system (be it Police, Political, Social etc). I won't divulge more details about the movie. Watch it for yourselves to enjoy the movie. The acting by all the actors in the movie is good. Siddharth Koirala as the Anwar suits the character. Pankaj Awasthi's music is heart warming. Lyrics from Sayeed Quadri are excellent.
In all a must watch for all serious cinema lovers.
