LPG distribution in Bangalore...
Recently I have been witness to a strange(or a nostalgic) scene while going to Hesaraghatta(in Banaglore, where IIHR is located). On my way to hesaraghatta, in Chikkabanaavara, I saw people standing in queue(like it used to be n still is for Kerosene in many parts of Karnataka)... The first thought which came to my mind was that these people may be standing for buying Kerosene, distributed through public distribution system. But when I saw a LPG distribution lorry standing next to them I was bit startled !!! Upon close observation I could make out that the people were there to collect their LPG cylinders. They were standing in queue and arguing with the LPG distributor(just like the Kerosene distribution). On seeing this I remebered my childhood days, when we also used to stand in queues to collect our share of the Kerosene from Janatha Bazaar or Govt. Fair Price shop. We used to argue with shop keeper to put Kerosene properly and not just make lather n cheat us... Once LPG came the dependence on Kerosene reduced and my interaction with Kerosene distributor became almost nil. Unlike Kerosene, LPG distribution is more civilized, as I've seen or most of the people might've seen. But when I saw the scene at Chikkabaanavara, I was surprised and I remembered the good ol dayd when Kerosene used to distributed like this. Even though we say, Bangalore is 'Silicon Valley' of India, scenes like this in Bangalore remind us that the development of Banaglore is not happening in the way it should have been. Not only this, there are so many things which point to the fact that the way Banaglore is growing is not healthier in the long run. If it continues to grow like this, with still a huge Rich-poor divide, lack of infrastructure and planning, Bangalore might become a sad story or good example for the mistakes we've done. So it is high time we woke up and corrected these things to make Bangalore a real Singapore or Shangahi, or better than them even. This way Bangalore can become a model city to whole world.
Until that happens, lets do our bit to the development of Bangalore in whatever way is possible by each of us.
