The Real Brahman !!!

This incident happened last yr around July. That time I came across 2 kinds of people who worship God(usually Brahmans) in two different places in karnataka and there was a huge difference between the 2 kinds. The thing so happened that during our recent trip to Gokarna I found one kind of a Brahman and then when I went to Chitradurga I found another kind. To top it all both were kind of two opposites, I can say.
At Gokarna, the priests at the Atmaling temple, take you with them for performing poojas and they offer you different packages(i mean different types of poojas at different rates) too!!! When we went to the temple, some priest took us for performing the pooja(it was almost forcibly u can say). Further, as in Udupi, u have to remove your shirt n banian(all men) before u enter the temple premises. Then when he started the pooja, he started asking our names one by one(we were total 13 guys in all). when we were telling our names one by one for performing the archana to  Lord shiva, the guy did a strange thing, which baffeled me !!! he used to listen to our names and used to repeat(usually priests do that in all Hindu temples when we go to temple and do archane to god in our names) only a few names. Then when I started thinking why is it so, i found a unique pattern. He was repeating the names of only the guys who were Brahmans among us n was just keeping quiet when other guys told their names. This really irritated me. When I started thinking how on earth he found out that?. I could see that the guy was looking at the sacred thread worn by Brahmans n then repeat only such names and exclude other names. This is really a very inhuman act done by that person, that too in front of the 'Atmaling', which is considered to be one of the most sacred place as per Hindu belief. I felt like hitting that person then n there itself, for committing such an act.I had no good thoughts or blessings for that person. I wonder why is God tolerating such inhuman acts, if front of him? I really pity the guy for not understanding the mtrue meaning of the word, 'Brahman'. (More on meaning of Brahman at:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080420231546AAUcW7Z )

Then I had to go to Chitradurga for some Pooja, on insistence from my uncle. I had to perform some Navagraha poojas at that time, and during this time I came in contact with another type of person(Brahman to be precise). This preist at one of the Ram mandir, was to perform the Surya shanti for me. We went to the temple early in the morning. The temple was not yet opened when we went there. So the priest opened the temple and asked us to sit in the temple and arrange the pooja items. Then he went to finish his bath before the pooja. He came and performed the pooja very well. After the pooja  when we have to give him the dakshina, we asked him how much was the dakshina. For this question, he replied,'I have done my job performing the pooja, you give me whatever you feel like'. I was startled on hearing this. There was a priest ta Gokarna, who was too materialistic and this priest who is true worshipper of God. We gave some money to him and came back. While we were leaving after taking his blessings, he said, 'once your work is accomplished(for which we performed the Surya shanti) please come back to take the blessings of the lord'.

I wish such people were there in the world in more numbers. Alas, nowadays, it is hard to find such people. The world has become materialistic to the core. Even the great places of worship have been commercialized:-( It is really sad to note such a trend. I just hope the great god does a miracle and cleanse all such criminals(who have made the Temples their business) from this world and make this world a better place to livein. Till such time, we have to tolerate such inhumans and wait for the miracle to happen!!!

  1. Quite true, Mahesh. A true Brahman will not look down on another person, because he sees God in all people.
